Revitalization and reutilization

These two words are often heard when speaking of rehabilitation of areas and properties. Revitalization means to give new vitality, new life, new dress. In this case, the original functions of the area or property are maintained. Reutilization means besides revitalization, to give a new function to the area or property.

And this is what entrepreneur Itiberê Silveira has been doing, with his own resources, to give new life to his city’s architectural and artistic heritage.

On a tight budget, he has managed to develop a process to restore and reuse a historic property, turning it into a multi-purpose space that today is a symbol of pride and self-esteem for its entire neighborhood.
Enthused with the recognition received by BSAG, Itiberê joined with Severino Neto – who was in charge of restoring the BSAG property – Leila Barbosa and architect Lauro Mesquita, and together they created...

In Rio de Janeiro, the team’s office is at BSAG itself. Besides developing projects in the areas of architecture, urban renewal, decoration and design, they offer training, updating and employment to professionals in the various areas involved in neighborhood rehabilitation.

The final objective of their work is to combine efficiency, creativity, functionality and beauty, along with the pleasure of doing something special, in which all those involved are motivated by the knowledge that they are helping to improve their city and offering witness that dreams and artistry should prevail over predatory and in the end futile mass consumption.
