Act
in Favor of the Fight of the Quilombos
In
the Quilombo de Caçandoca
(Ubatuba, Brazil), 50 families who trace their origins
back to the original settlers of this quilombo (settlement
of runaway slaves) are losing their right
to remain on their lands. What’s worse,
if the Caçandoca community loses this right,
other such settlements in Brazil made up of the descendants
of freedom-seeking slaves may also risk losing their
lands.
