Maestro
Darcy

A rhythmist and percussionist,
during his career he recorded with many famous musicians,
such as Dizzy Gillespie, João Gilberto, Milton
Nascimento, João Gilberto and Tom Jobim.
“Jongo is a dance that was brought to Brazil
by the Banta people from Angola. It was called CAXAMBU
on the sugar plantations in the north of the state
of Rio de Janeiro because of the drum of the same
name.
In the middle of a circle lit by a bonfire, a soloist
or jongo maestro improvises songs based on everyday
situations, which are responded to in unison by the
other participants.”
"Drums:
CAXAMBU has a mid-range sound; CANDONGUEIRO has a
sharp sound.”
